21st Century Democrats Endorses Hans Riemer for Montgomery County Council
Washington, DC - Today, 21st Century Democrats endorsed Hans Riemer for Montgomery County Council At-Large. Riemer, most recently a senior advisor at AARP, has a strong history of supporting progressive politics. He was a key early staffer on President Obama's campaign as National Youth Vote Director for Obama for America, helping millions of young voters get involved while also forming the Montgomery County and Maryland for Obama operations. Whether through his participation with the Obama campaign or in his role as Vice President of Montgomery County's Action Committee for Transit, which advocates for the Metro purple line, Riemer has been a fearless fighter for community input and making sure everyone has a voice in the process. Now as Montgomery County Councilman, he wants to engage Montgomery County residents in all aspects of the policy-making process.
Riemer is committed to the creation of new jobs. He will work to boost workforce development in partnership with Montgomery College, as well as produce next generation transit systems to support new jobs, and invest in green industry businesses. He is a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility and believes Montgomery County should exercise greater oversight and accountability over the budget, bringing transparency to projections and focus to key long-term issues. In these difficult financial times, Riemer also fights for the continued support of youth and seniors, prioritizing teacher quality and senior health and wellness services.
"Hans Riemer has been a longtime friend of our organization, and I am thrilled he is running for office," said Jim Scheibel, Chairman of 21st Century Democrats. "He has been and will continue to be a tireless advocate for the people of Montgomery County."
21st Century Democrats is a Washington, D.C., based grassroots-oriented political action committee that endorses and helps elect progressive Democrats. In the last 10 years alone, the organization has helped more than 165 candidates in 31 states win election; has employed and trained 475 field organizers and 500 canvassers; and has trained 4,400 activists in the fundamentals of grassroots organizing.
