Why We Like Him: Hans Riemer has a strong history of supporting progressive politics. He is committed to the creation of new jobs. He will work to boost workforce development in partnership with Montgomery College, produce next generation transit systems to support new jobs, and invest in green industry businesses. He is a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility and believes Montgomery County should exercise greater oversight and accountability over the budget, bringing transparency to projections and focus to key long-term issues. In these difficult financial times, Hans also fights for the continued support of youth and seniors, prioritizing teacher quality and senior health and wellness services.

Hans Riemer is 37 and lives in Silver Spring with his wife Angela and their son, Henry. Hans served as President Obama's National Youth Vote Director during the campaign, where he was responsible for bringing millions of young people out to vote, starting with the Iowa Caucus. Most recently, he served as a senior advisor at AARP, the consumer advocacy organization for Americans over fifty. Prior to joining the Obama campaign, Hans was a leader in the national campaign to stop President Bush's Social Security privatization scheme. Leading up to the 2004 election, Hans ran Rock the Vote's election program, registering a million young voters.
As a past President of Montgomery County's Action Committee for Transit, Hans has been a fearless fighter for the Purple Line, one of the most critical transportation projects in the Washington region. He has fought for the Corridor Cities Transitway in the upcounty; adequate funding for the Metro system, a backbone of Montgomery County's economy; and RideOn buses, which serve many residents who have no other option for getting to work and home to their family. He is very proud that his County Council campaign is supported by a broad coalition of working families, community leaders and progressive organizations including the Montgomery County Education Association, SEIU Local 500, the Montgomery County Youth Slate, 21st Century Democrats, Councilmembers Valerie Ervin and Nancy Navarro, Senator Jamie Raskin, and Delegates Bill Frick, Tom Hucker, Heather Mizeur, Karen Montgomery and Kirill Reznik.
