Building a Progressive Democratic Majority From the Grassroots Up

“Government must take the lead in inspiring people, fostering healthy communities and empowering concerned citizens to affect change. I am running for office so that I can help our government reclaim these roles in Illinois.”

Daniel Biss is a mathematician who will take his problem solving skills and passion to improve our country to the Illinois House of Representatives. Biss is running for State Representative because he values equality, opportunity, and fairness. Dismayed by political apathy in his community, Biss believes government must take the lead in inspiring people, fostering healthy communities, and empowering concerned citizens to affect change. The challenges facing his community will not be solved easily, but as a teacher, political organizer and active community member, Biss is committed to bringing people together to find solutions for Illinois’ 17th District.

Improving education is the primary reason Biss is running for State House. His time as a student and teacher has shown him how education can make a difference in peoples’ lives. He wants to empower elements of our society who feel robbed of a voice in their community. He will lead the fight to restructure the education funding system away from local property taxes toward a more equitable solution, because providing every student is with the resources to learn is both a moral and Constitutional duty.

Like most Americans, Biss is staggered by the rapid increase in gas and energy costs. He believes it is time for leaders to truly address the energy crisis and advocates a scientific approach toward reducing energy consumption both in transport and around the home. He strongly supports the Illinois’ Renewable Energy Standard requiring that 25% of energy by 2025 come from renewable sources by 2025. The concept of smart growth balances Biss’ desire to see economic improvement for all residents of the 17th House District with the need to protect our environment. He will champion the development of vibrant and sustainable communities based around a world-class transit system.

21st Century Democrats is confident that Biss’ dedication and leadership abilities will enable him to see his dream for Illinois become a reality. His progressive ideas and vision for the future make him the optimal choice for the people of the 17th District. 21st Century Democrats is proud to support Daniel Biss as he works to foster healthy communities, care for our environment and empowering ordinary citizens.
