The Republican incumbent has been under the influence of Washington lobbyists for far too long, and Gary brings with him the knowledge and experience necessary to get his district back on track. With a unique combination of legislative, academic, legal, military and business experience, Gary Peters has successfully run organizations and managed budgets as an executive in both the private and public sectors.
Throughout his career, Gary has been proven that he can produce results and improve the lives of others. He has never wavered in his support of equal rights for all people. Gary has proven himself to be a passionate fighter for the environment and for ensuring that our neighborhoods and communities are safe and clean places to live regardless of race, location or income level. His legislation and management have led to assisting the police in making communities safer as well as reasonable and fair workers compensation regulations.
Gary’s public service has included a tenure as Rochester Hills City Councilman, 8 years as a State Senator, and 4 years as the Lottery Commissioner in Michigan. His private sector experience includes working as a former Vice President of Investments for UBS/Paine Webber, former Assistant Vice President Merrill Lynch. In addition, Gary has served as a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy, as a senior policy and financial analyst for the Michigan Department of Treasury, and as the Griffin Chair of American Government at Central Michigan University.
Gary has the bold vision needed in Congress to pursue a better America for ourselves and our children. He will be a strong advocate for fair trade laws to ensure that American industry can excel in a world where our companies are not only competing against foreign companies but entire countries. The rising cost of health care has left to many families in America one serious illness away from bankruptcy. In Congress Gary will stand up to the HMOs and drug companies intent on blocking reform and push an agenda that provides access to affordable, quality healthcare for every American. Additionally, he will support fiscally responsible policies that reduce the deficit and help our economy grow without saddling our children with monstrous debts.
The Peters family has been in Oakland County for 5 generations. Each generation has always been able to provide a better life for their children, but now for the first time in America many families feel that they will not be able to give their children a better world than the one that their parents gave to them. Today’s parents are frustrated and deserve a new style of leadership that creates quality jobs, makes health care work for everyone, and schools that provides our kids even better opportunities. Gary was inspired to enter public service through his parents example, who taught him to always stand up against injustice and to stand up for what he believed in.
