Creigh Deeds

21st Century Democrats endorses Creigh Deeds for Governor of Virginia. In over two decades of public service, Deeds has been dedicated to solving tough problems and improving the quality of life for all Virginians.

“21st Century Democrats is proud to endorse Creigh Deeds for Governor of Virginia” said Jim Scheibel, 21st Century Democrats’ Board Chairman. “We have a history of promoting leaders who can transcend times of crisis and build a better tomorrow. Creigh Deeds is one of those leaders. His plans to generate green jobs and develop Virginia’s intellectual and physical infrastructure will benefit the state for decades.”

Deeds, a state senator and former prosecutor, has fought tirelessly on behalf of Virginians, creating jobs, promoting education and protecting the state’s natural beauty. He has supported green jobs in Virginia, fought for a $500 tax credit for families caring for aged loved ones at home, and authored the most progressive land preservation legislation in the state’s history, preserving over 270,000 acres in the past five years.

“I’m honored and excited to have the endorsement of 21st Century Democrats” said Deeds. “I respect its commitment to grassroots politics and admire its long record of electing progressives across the country.”

 Jody Wagner

21st Century Democrats endorses Jody Wagner for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. In the past decade, Wagner has been instrumental in shaping the fiscal policies that have helped Virginia become one of the nation’s most financially successful states.

“21st Century Democrats is proud to endorse Jody Wagner for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia” said Scheibel. “One of our core functions is to identify and support new, talented leaders within the Democratic Party. Jody’s fiscal policies have already benefitted all Virginians. Her commitment to bolster science and education and create green jobs will benefit Virginians for years to come.”

Wagner, a small business owner and mother of four, has lived in Virginia for over 25 years. As Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Virginia under Governor Warner and then Secretary of Finance under Governor Kaine, Jody enacted the fiscal policies that have made Virginia the nation’s best managed state. Under her watch, Virginia was voted the best state for doing business. She will build upon this success by improving Virginia’s education system and making Virginia a leader in conservation and clean energy production.

Steve Shannon

21st Century Democrats endorses Steve Shannan for Attorney General of Virginia. “From his days as a prosecutor to his co-founding of Northern Virginia’s AMBER Alert System, Steve has proven himself as an exemplary public servant,” said Scheibel. “His commitment to protecting the environment while facilitating the creation of green jobs represents the kind of leadership Virginia needs and 21st Century Democrats seeks to promote.”

Shannon, a father of three, has been a state delegate since 2003. With his wife, Abby, he co-founded the AMBER Alert System in Northern Virginia to help rescue abducted children. Additionally, he led the fight to pass the 2008 Higher Education Bond Package, a bipartisan effort that has bolstered Virginia’s university and college infrastructure.

Steve Behar

21st Century Democrats endorses Steve Behar in the race for New York City Council District 19. Behar has spent the last five years as the president of Democrats for New Politics, coordinating political operations across New York.

“21st Century Democrats takes great pride in identifying and supporting new, young progressive Democratic candidates,” said Scheibel. “Steve has really impressed us, not only with his progressive ideals and willingness to work hard for change, but also with his dedication to the people of Northeast Queens. He will make a fine public servant.”

On the New York City Council, Steve will stand up for the communities of Bayside, Whitestone, College Point, North Flushing, Douglaston, and Little Neck. He will work to make his district greener by supporting recycling programs, energy efficiency and the creation of green jobs. He will also fight for New York City’s schools to receive proper funding so that New York’s students can succeed.

“As a member of their Field Organizer Training Class of 2008, I am especially proud to receive the endorsement of 21st Century Democrats,” said Behar. “The values and techniques that have been used to elect progressive Democrats across the country, and across all levels of government, are now providing me with a framework to run my campaign for New York City Council. And, thanks in part to 21st Century Democrats, I’m experiencing success at the grassroots level that I hope will carry me to victory on election day.”
